As humans, we are collectors,
the closets and cubbies of our
homes are filled with things that
we seldom use, are all these
things kept because of need, or greed.
As humans, we are collectors; the
cracked mirror in the corner of the
basement, brought home from
Grandmas’ because as children it
distorted our faces, made us laugh,
need or greed.
As humans, we are collectors; boxes
of colored papers, dried plaster with
tiny hands, boxes of remembrances
that no one ever see’s, need or greed.
As humans, we are collectors; that
old chair of Great-Grandmas’ fills a
corner in the den, as well as Grandpas’
old gun given to him by a friend, need
As humans, we are collectors; our
treasures shroud us in sorrow,
happiness or fear, still we hold it
near, need or greed.
As humans, our lives are like the mirror
that is cracked…
